It never is pretty. Assuming he is still alive, thank him for me.

I am the Grandson of two WWII vets. My mother's father was a Sgt. in the Army and my dad's father served in the U.S.M.C. in the Pacific. My mother's father was Stateside for much of 1942-1945 due to not being fit for combat. My father's dad started out as a underwater welder doing salvage and recovery work at Pearl Harbor. He later fought Japan through many of the islands until he was wounded.

My uncle served in the Air-Force during the cold war. Then he worked for years as a cival servant at a Army Depot and retired as a GS-15. My cousin enlisted in the Army in 1995 but did not complete Basic Training due to health reasons.

GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS

Thanks for remembering the Vets, GF. I served from 1986-1992 in the US Navy. Aviation Eletronics Technician Second Class. Repaired P-3B(MOD) Orion aircraft. LOTS of good freinds and good times.

I don't know a lot of details of my family but I do know,
my grandpa was army, my dad was USMC, and I served
in USMC from 1989 - 2003, during desert shield.
My son has started his first year in Air Force ROTC.

Thanks for the remembrance! Semper Fi to all veterans!

Thumbs down

Even though I'm not American, I'd like to share a few things. My grandfather fought in the liberation of Indonesia, and got killed by the peacekeeper force (British and Dutch) in Surabaya (Because Indonesia was Dutch territory)

Both my grandfathers served in the Navy during WWII, other members of our family worked for the Navy during the war as well. My Great Uncle flew a bomber in Europe. My father currently teaches at the Naval Postgraduate school although he is a civilian. I lost a friend in Iraq and another is an Amry Airborne Ranger Captain.

Thumbs up

I retired from the AS Air Force in 1999 after 21 years. I served in Desert Storm from 1/91 to 7/91 as a flight nurse on C-141's. I am also a Vietnam era veteran. Joining the military was the best decision I made in my life (aside from having a family) and retiring was the second best.

A big warm thank you to all my military brothers and sisters who have served and are serving now.

God Bless our servicemen and women!
